ABSTRACT

Objective To study on the relationship between the serum level of highsensitivity c-reaction protein (hs-CR),matrix metalloproteinase 9 (MMT-9),tissue inhibitor of metalloproteinase 1 (TIMP-1) and carotid plaque stability in elderly people. Methods According to the carotid ultrasonography examination,120 old people were divided into vulnerable plaque group (group A,n =45),stable plaque group (group B,n =41) and no plaque group (group C,n =34),and serum levels of hs-CRP,MMP-9,TIMP-1 in each group were also detected. Results The serum levels of hs-CRP and MMP-9 of unstable plaque group and stable plaque group were higher than those of non-plaque group (P < 0.05).hsCRP and MMP-9 were positively correlated with carotid plaque unstability, while TIMP-1 was negatively correlated with carotid plaque unstability,hs-CRP,MMP-9 and TIMP-1 were independent risk factors for carotid plaque stability. Conclusions Serum levels of hs-CRP,MMP-9 and TIMP-1 are closely related to the stability of carotid plaque.Elevated levels of hs-CRP and MMP-9 increase the risk of carotid plaque, and elevated levels of TIMP-1 decrease the risk of carotid plaque.

ABSTRACT

Objective To investigate the application values of S100-β protein, homocysteine (Hcy) and high-sensitive C-reactive protein (hs-CRP) in the diagnosis of acute ischemic stroke(AIS).Methods A total of 73 patients with AIS were enrolled in this study. The Non-stroke patients with similar symptoms were selected as control group (n =50).The relationship between levels of S100-β protein,Hcy and hs-CRP and infarct volume was evaluated. The receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curve was used to evaluate the diagnostic values of single and combined detection of these indicators in AIS.Results The levels of S100-β protein,Hcy and hs-CRP were higher in AIS patients than those in control group after adjusting the major vascular risk factors (P < 0.05).There were significant differences in S100-β protein,Hcy and hs-CRP between different groups according to the infarct volume (P < 0.05).S100-β protein,Hcy and hs-CRP positively were correlated with infarct volume (r =0.625,P =0.000;r =291,P =0.012;r =0.396,P =0.001 respectively).ROC curves showed that the diagnostic performances for AIS were as follows:S100-β protein (AUC =0.809,sensitivity:65.8%,specificity:82.0%),Hcy (AUC =0.775,sensitivity:54.8%,specificity:84.0%),hs-CRP (AUC =0.698,sensitivity:58.9%,specificity:78.0%) and Combined detection (AUC =0.878,the sensitivity:68.5 %,specificity:94%).Conclusions S100-β protein,Hcy and hs-CRP protein can be used as biomarkers for AIS,which can help the diagnosis of AIS.S100-β protein can be used as a biomarker to evaluate the severity of AIS,Hcy and hs-CRP can also reflect the severity of AIS to some extent.Single detections of S100-β protein,Hcy and hs-CRP show limited value in the diagnosis of AIS.Combined detection gains a high specificity, but sensitivity is not very high.

ABSTRACT

Objective To investigate whether C-reactive protein (CRP) and neutrophil/lymphocyte ration (NLR) can predict the infection complications and predict the short-term survival rate of patients with cirrhosis. Methods Data of 208 patients with liver cirrhosis from March 2013 to March 2016 were analyzed retrospectively. The effects of CRP concentration,NLR and other clinical factors on the infection and one-month survival rate of patients with liver cirrhosis were analyzed. Results Sixty-five patients with dominant infection during hospitalization were used as the infected group, while the other 143 patients were selected as uninfected group. The levels of CRP and NLR in the infected group were significantly higher than those in the uninfected group (CRP:t =16.216,P =0.003;NLR:t =7.211,P =0.025).The results of univariate analysis showed that age,female,non-alcoholic cirrhosis, systemic inflammatory response syndrome (SIRS),high level of CRP,and high NLR value were important risk factors of infection in cirrhotic patients. In multivariate analysis, female, high level of CRP,and high NLR value were the independent predictor of infection in patients with cirrhosis.Univariate analysis showed that NLR,model for end-stage liver disease (MELD) score, and WBC count were important predictors of 1-month survival.Multivariate analysis showed that high NLR was an independent predictor of one-month survival in Child Pugh C patients. Conclusions CRP level and NLR value may be an effective diagnostic marker in patients with liver cirrhosis. The high NLR value in patients with Child-Pugh C is an independent risk factor for poor short survival.

ABSTRACT

Objective To investigate the relationships between serum concentration of RBP-4 and the parameters of inflammatory, lipid metabolism, insulin resistance in patients with T2DM. Methods 71 patients newly diagnosed with T2DM and 34 subjects with normal glucose tolerance (NGT) were enrolled in this cross-sectional study. Additionally, another subset analysis was performed. Subjects were divided into normal weight (NW) and overweight or obesity (OW/OB) group on the basis of BMI. Serum RBP-4 was measured with ELISA. Serum concentrations of hs-CRP, free fatty acids (FFA), triglyceride (TG), total cholesterol (TC) and insulin were measured in fasting status. Insulin resistance was assessed by HOMA-IR. Results Ln (HOMA-IR) and the concentrations of TG, FFA, In(hs-CRP) in T2DM were significant-ly higher than that of NGR group[1.20±0.38 vs 0.76±0.34,(2.74±2. 20)mmol/L vs (1.88±1.41),(0. 80±0. 29)mmol/L vs (0.61±0.22)retool/L,0.62±1.00 vs -0. 17±1.07] . InRBP-4 showed a positive relationship with In (HOMA-IR) ( r =0. 382, P <0. 05), but no association with TC, TG, FFA and In(hs-CRP). In the group of T2DM, InRBP-4 showed a positive relationship with FFA ( r =0. 242, P <0.05) and In (hs-CRP) ( r =0.346, P <0.01), but no association with TC, TG and In (HOMA-IR). There were no relationships between InRBP-4 and In (HOMA-IR), TC, TG, FFA and In (hs-CRP)in NW, while in OW/OB group, InRBP-4 showed a positive relationship with In (HOMA-IR) ( r =0. 290,P < 0. 05 ) and In (hs-CRP) ( r = 0. 295, P <0.05 ), but no association with TC, TG and FFA. In a mul-tiple linear regression analysis, In( hs-CRP), TC, TG, FFA or In(HOMA-IR) was not the independent de-terminant of InRBP-4 in any group. Conclusion In patients with T2DM, InRBP-4 is positively correlatedwith In (hs-CRP) and FFA, and it may be a new marker of inflammation.

ABSTRACT

Objective To investigate the serum level of visfatin, C-reactive protein (CRP) and monocyte chemoattractant protein-1 (MCP-1) in patients with polycystic ovarian syndrome (PCOS), and provide the basis for understanding the pathogenesis of PCOS. Meth-ods 94 patients with PCOS and 100 healthy subjects were divided into 4 subgroups according to their body mass index(BMI), including obese PCOS subgroup(n = 52), non - obese PCOS subgroup (n = 42), obese healthy subject subgroup (n = 43) and non - obese healthy subject (n = 57). Serum visfatin, CRP, MCP-1, sex hormone levels and metabolic parameters were measured by enzyme-linked immu-nosorbent assay (ELISA), automatic chemistry analyzer or chemiluminescent immunoassay. Results Serum levels of testosterone (T), lu-teiizing hormone (LH) and prolactin (PRL) in the PCOS group were significantly higher than those in healthy subjects group(P <0.05~0.01), and follicle-stimulating hormone (FSH) levels were significantly decreased in PCOS group(P<0.01). Serum levels of Visfatin, CRP, MCP-1,fasting insulin(Fins) and insulin resistance homa model (HOMA-IR) in the obese or non - obese PCOS subgroup were signif-icantly increased than that in the obese or non - obese healthy subjects subgroup respectively (P<0.01). Pearson correlation analysis showed that the visfatin, CRP and MCP-1 levels were positively related to BMI, FINS and HOMA-IR(r=0.323~0.675, P<0.01). Par-tial correlation showed that serum visfatin levels were correlated with HOMA-IR(r=0.491, P<0.01), and serum MCP-1 levels were cor-related with LH (r=0.267, P<0.05) in the PCOS group. Conclusion The patients with PCOS had higher visfatin, CRP and MCP-1 lev-els, and visfatin levels were positively correlated with insulin resistance. Obesity were involved in the chronic inflammation course in patients with PCOS.
